More than 3,000 national and international athletes have already secured their place in the 11th Famalicão Half Marathon. The race will take place next Sunday, 19 October, starting at 9h30 on Avenida Brasil, and includes a 21-kilometre race and a 10-kilometre run/walk.
The 11th edition of this legendary athletics event is one of the most eagerly awaited sporting events in the region and is part of the World Athletics calendar, which makes it particularly attractive as it allows for the homologation of records.
When presenting the race, the Councillor for Sport of the Municipality of Famalicão, Pedro Oliveira, highlighted the competitive quality of the race, promoted in partnership with Run Porto. ‘The Half Marathon is a competition that gives great visibility to our territory, added to which we welcome leading national athletes and many high-quality foreign athletes, who will contribute to raising the competitive level.’
Regarding expectations for the Q8 11th Famalicão Half Marathon, Jorge Teixeira, from RunPorto, pointed to a record number of registrations, ‘but also a competitive record,’ emphasising that the presence of foreign athletes contributes to ‘raising the bar to an international level.’
As was the case last year, the race will feature elite international athletes, namely Kenyans Shadrack Korir, winner of the Nuaille Half Marathon (France) in 2025, and Faith Chepkoech, winner of the Lisbon Half Marathon in 2024. Among the Portuguese athletes, Miguel Borges (Sporting Clube de Braga) and Carlos Costa (Vizela Corre) are particularly noteworthy.
It should be noted that the Q8 11th Famalicão Half Marathon is jointly organised by the Municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão and Run Porto, with Q8 as the main sponsor.
The 21-kilometre race starts at Avenida Brasil, heading towards the city centre - passing through several of the city's iconic streets - then follows Estrada Nacional 206, turning towards Vale São Cosme until it reverses direction at Têxtil Manuel Gonçalves (Avenida Central/EN309), towards the finish line, which will be located in the CITEVE car park. The 10-kilometre race covers a circuit through the city centre, starting and finishing at the same location as the half marathon.
It will once again be possible to follow the performance of the participants in the Famalicão Half Marathon live via the RunPorto app, which allows you to follow each athlete's progress in real time. This platform will also provide information about the race, including route maps, refreshment points, medical support, and other details.
Registration for the Q8 11th Famalicão Half Marathon is still open on the official RunPorto website.
