From 29 August to 7 September, around 140,000 visitors came to Vila Nova de Famalicão to explore the various handicrafts, taste the different delicacies and watch the various cultural events that marked the 40th edition of the Handicraft and Gastronomy Fair.
The event featured a hundred artisans, food producers and restaurant stands from all over the country, in addition to 20 shows starring artists from Famalicão and well-known names in Portuguese music, such as D.A.M.A, Dillaz and Quim Barreiros.
The Mayor of Vila Nova de Famalicão, Mário Passos, assures us that ‘it was ten days of great culture and conviviality,’ praising everyone involved in the event. ‘I must thank everyone who visited our Handicraft and Gastronomy Fair and everyone who was involved in organising this 40th edition,’ he says.
‘Our Handicraft and Gastronomy Fair is now one of the most prestigious fairs in the country, not only because of the number of visitors it receives every year, but above all because of the fantastic artisans and gastronomic producers who choose Famalicão to showcase their pieces and products,’ concludes the mayor.
It should be noted that artisan Pedro Macedo, from Barcelos, created ‘The Best Piece’ at this year’s Famalicão Handicraft Fair - a train made from bicycle chains -. The ‘Best Stand’ award went to Maria Ascensão Ferreira, a fabric doll artisan from Santo Tirso. António Ferreira Machado, from Braga, and Maria Dulce Ferreira, from Delães, were also honoured with the Honourable Mention for ‘Best Piece’ and ‘Best Stand’, respectively.
