Starting on Saturday, 11 October, Casa das Artes will be hosting its big film festival with the 10th edition of Close-Up – Famalicão Film Observatory. More than 30 sessions over eight days, from 11 to 18 October, make up a vast programme for all ages. Also noteworthy are the film concerts, debates, workshops and sessions for schools and families.
This is an opportunity for the first major tribute to David Lynch in Portugal, with the debut in our country of Dean Hurley, a close collaborator of David Lynch, both on and off screen, who will star in a film concert and a masterclass.
Also noteworthy is the special programme celebrating 25 years of filmography by Portuguese director Margarida Cardoso, who premiered Banzo in 2024 (a Portuguese film nominated for an Oscar and which has just won a Golden Globe), and the presentation of two unique film concerts: Bruno Pernadas rediscovers Orson Welles' It's All True and the project 007: Licence to Sing celebrates James Bond with guests such as Rita Redshoes and Mimicat, in an original idea by Renato Júnior, which will be joined by the ARTAVE Symphony Orchestra.
The theme of this edition, centred on the marital home, brings together films by Jonas Trueba, Stephane Brizé, Jane Campion, Stanley Kubrick, among others. The Café Kiarostami section offers two masterclasses: sound and music in David Lynch by Dean Hurley and the relationship between cinema and television by Edgar Medina.
Since 1 October, in the foyer of Casa das Artes, CLOSE-UP has been presenting the exhibition “A Estrada Não Tem Fim” (The Road Has No End), which marks the start of the tributes to David Lynch, in partnership with the Melgaço Cinema Museum - Jean Loup Passek.
