The Municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão, through the Multidisciplinary Management Team of Devesa Park and in partnership with local associations linked to the environment and sustainability, is promoting a new edition of the environmental conference ‘Ambientar-se’ on 21 and 22 November, which this year marks its 10th anniversary.
Under the theme ‘The Age of Waste’, the meeting aims to alert the population and decision-makers to the excessive production of waste, low separation and recycling rates, and the growing consumerism of today's society. The goal is to promote reflection and encourage changes in lifestyles, consumption, and waste management policies, which continue to pose a challenge in Portugal and around the world.
The ‘Ambientar-se’ conferences begin with the screening of a film, followed by a debate. This year, the initiative kicks off on 21 November with a guided tour of the Riba de Ave Urban Waste Treatment Centre, managed by RESINORTE.
On 22 November, activities will focus on the Camilianos Study Centre in Seide, where themed films will be screened — ‘Waste Land’ by Nikolaus Geyrhalter, ‘Oceans of Plastic’ (short version), ‘Upstream: Microplastics in UK Rivers’ and the video "Lowsumerism – Conscious Consumerism.‘ After the screenings, there will be two panel discussions with experts, dedicated to the themes of ’Waste: the rubbish we produce,‘ ’Microplastics: contaminated water of life‘ and ’Reducing consumption: less is better."
Registration for this year's edition of ‘Ambientar-se’ can be done through the website www.parquedadevesa.com.
The Municipality offers participants, upon registration, free transport between the Bus Station and the Camilianos Study Centre, as well as a vegan and inclusive lunch.
It should be noted that the ‘Ambientar-se’ project began on 16 October 2015 and, over the last decade, has promoted environmental education and reflection on sustainability in Vila Nova de Famalicão, establishing itself as a benchmark on the national scene.
