Lapa Chapel Sacred Art Museum, opened in 1997, is installed inside a religious temple built during the 18th century over the ruins of an ancient chapel that existed there dedicated to São Sebastião, dating from the 1570s. This chapel later came to adopt Our Lady of Lapa as a patron.
Inside, three altars and a pulpit carved and gilded with rocaille decoration and its wood-lined ceiling with paintings of angels, baskets of flowers, conchs and a wealth of phytomorphic motifs. It is one of the most beautiful and precious temples in the Vila Nova de Famalicão municipality.
The Museum's collection, which comes mainly from the Parish of Santo Adrião in Vila Nova de Famalicão, falls within the scope of Christian religious art of a devotional and liturgical character. The objects, dated between the 18th and 20th century, reflect the different dimensions of the human relationship with the divine and witness the religiosity of local communities.

Mission
To create spaces to meet and reflect that promote anthropological awareness of the world and the meaning of life, through the spiritual dimensions of Sacred Art.

Objectives
1. To facilitate regular public access;
2. To develop the study, inventory and documentation of the museum collection;
3. To create adequate conditions of preventive conservation, restoration and safety;
4. To make known the museum collection and systematically develop mediation programmes and educational activities that bring a new look on this legacy;
5. To get to know our audience better, to build loyalty, to increase and broaden it.
