The Municipality of Famalicão will proceed with the refurbishment of the Seide Primary School. The contract for the expansion and refurbishment of Primary School No. 1 in São Miguel de Seide was approved at the municipal executive meeting on 20 November and will result in a municipal investment of around €1.3 million.

The project involves the restoration of the existing century-old building and the expansion of the school's facilities through the construction of a new two-storey building, which will be developed as a continuation of the current space and connected to the original building from the inside.

There will be four classrooms, support rooms, a staff room, a canteen (with its own kitchen), toilets and a storage room.

The area surrounding the buildings will be reorganised to create a covered playground, a sports ground, an educational vegetable garden and green spaces.  

During the course of the work, which is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2026, teaching activities will take place in temporary facilities located on land adjacent to the iconic Casa de Camilo, currently used as a car park.

The temporary facilities include four classrooms, a multipurpose dining area, a staff room, toilets and a technical area.

With a completion deadline of 12 months, the company Fernando Silva & Cia, Lda, will carry out the contract.

It should be noted that the Municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão has continuously invested in the refurbishment and modernisation of the municipality's school facilities. Several projects are currently underway, namely the new Brufe School Centre, the Padre Benjamim Salgado Secondary School (Joane), the Senador Sousa Fernandes Primary School No. 1 (Vila Nova de Famalicão), also known as the Mões Primary School, and the Loureiro Primary School No. 1 (Delães).
