The parish councils of the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão will see an increase in the discretionary funds announced by Mário Passos during the last election campaign as early as 2026.
The mayor, who, at a meeting held last Thursday at the Town Hall, which brought together the municipal executive and the 39 parish council presidents in office for the 2025-2029 term, announced a 20% increase in discretionary funds, which next year will amount to around €2.7 million, gave the confirmation.
Faced with many new faces – of the current 39 parish council presidents, 23 are now beginning their first term – Mário Passos highlighted the importance of a close relationship between the municipality and the parishes, guaranteeing his full availability over the next four years to continue working side by side with all local executives.
‘The City Council will, as always, be fully available to support the work of the Parish Councils. Only through a close relationship and constant dialogue can we promote the balanced development of the territory and ensure quality of life for our populations,’ said the mayor.
Establishing ties, aligning expectations and identifying priority areas for intervention at a crucial moment in the preparation of the new municipal cycle were the main objectives of this meeting, which marked the beginning of a cycle of enhanced cooperation between the City Council and the Parish Councils.
