The municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão has gained a new sports venue.
The pavilion of the former Externato Delfim Ferreira was acquired by the City Council and will soon give way to the future Riba de Ave Municipal Pavilion.
The public deed of acquisition of the facility took place yesterday, Monday, 17 November.
On Tuesday morning, the mayor, Mário Passos, took possession of the facility and conducted a technical visit to assess, together with municipal services, the need for works to be carried out on the premises, which, it should be noted, is suitable for various sports and equipped with stands with a capacity for more than half a thousand people.
‘In a municipality with more than 200 sports associations and clubs, the acquisition of this facility to strengthen our municipal network of sports halls was an opportunity we could not ignore,’ explained Mário Passos, who was accompanied on his visit to Riba de Ave by the Councillor for Sport, Pedro Oliveira.
‘This is great news for sport in Famalicão, for the town of Riba de Ave and for the neighbouring parishes,’ added the mayor, who hopes to see this sports hall soon serving the municipal sports movement.
It should be noted that the Municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão acquired the sports hall at auction for €501,000.
