The Mayor of Famalicão, Mário Passos, was elected on Wednesday as president of the Intermunicipal Council of CIM do Ave, with the task of leading the body for the next four years, in a term that runs until 2029.
The eight mayors who are part of the Ave Intermunicipal Community unanimously elected Mário Passos. The mayor of Vila Nova de Famalicão will have as vice-presidents the Mayor of Fafe, Antero Barbosa, and the Mayor of Mondim de Basto, Bruno Ferreira.
The Intermunicipal Council of CIM do Ave also includes the following mayors: Manuel Teixeira (Cabeceiras de Basto), Ricardo Araújo (Guimarães), Frederico Castro (Póvoa de Lanhoso), Filipe de Oliveira (Vieira do Minho) and Victor Hugo Salgado (Vizela).
Mário Passos thanked ‘the mayors who are part of this body for their trust,’ committing himself ‘to working closely with all municipalities, promoting sustainable development and territorial cohesion in our Intermunicipal Community.’
It should be noted that the Ave Intermunicipal Community is an association of municipalities created in 2009 with the aim of promoting the management of intermunicipal projects in NUT III AVE. Its objectives are to promote economic and social development, manage regional public policies and optimise resources and services shared between its municipalities. It comprises the municipalities of Cabeceiras de Basto, Fafe, Guimarães, Mondim de Basto, Póvoa de Lanhoso, Vieira do Minho, Vizela and Vila Nova de Famalicão, representing an area of 1,453 km² and a population of over 425,000 inhabitants.
The Intermunicipal Council is the deliberative body of the AVE CIM, composed of the mayors of the associated municipalities, with powers in the areas of planning, regional development and intermunicipal project management.
