The annual calendar of Community Exhibitions in Vila Nova de Famalicão, promoted by the City Council in partnership with the Parish Councils, kicked off this weekend.
The first exhibition of the year took place, as usual, in the parish of Louro, with the traditional Arrancada dos Reis setting the tone for the initiative.
"The wealth of the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão lies in the diversity of who we are as a territory and, more than just a place for socialising, the community exhibitions are a reflection of this identity, culture and traditions of each of our 49 parish communities," says the Mayor, Mário Passos, who also praises the role of the municipal associative movement in promoting a vibrant municipality.
This weekend, in Louro, the Community Exhibition filled Praça Comendador Artur Cupertino de Miranda to celebrate the arrival of the Three Wise Men, the traditional lighting of the bonfire and the cutting of a giant king cake.
It should be noted that community exhibitions have been held since 2014. They take place throughout the year, rotating between the different parishes in the municipality, usually at the weekend and with an associated entertainment programme developed by the community. It is an initiative based on the idea of valuing the community as a space for affirmation, interaction and sharing, resulting in a dynamic and lively collective exhibition about the parishes of Famalicão.
The initiative's calendar can be consulted throughout the year in the Famalicão Municipal Agenda, available on the municipality's website at www.famalicao.pt.
