The Mayor of Vila Nova de Famalicão, Mário Passos, visited the Union of Parishes of Vale São Cosme, Telhado and Portela on Wednesday, 14 January, to monitor the completion of the water supply network in the municipality.
The first phase of this project is underway and involves the construction of infrastructure for the distribution of the ‘high’ network by Águas do Norte and the ‘low’ network by the local authority, with connections to more than 600 residential branches, totalling 22 kilometres of network.
This first phase, representing an investment of €5 million - more than €1 million provided by the local authority and around €3.6 million by Águas do Norte - will be followed by two further phases/contracts, which will then complete the water supply network in Famalicão. They will be promoted by the local authority, will begin this year and represent an investment of a further €2 million for the installation of a further 905 domestic connections, covering a distance of approximately 35 kilometres.
"It is one of the most important investments we have in the area. We are talking about a service that is fundamental to the well-being and quality of life of the families who live here, and I am therefore pleased to see that the work on this first phase is progressing at a good pace and that, soon, we will also be starting the other two projects that will complete the water supply network in the municipality," said the mayor, who was accompanied on this visit by the Councillor for Environmental Infrastructure and Waste Management, Hélder Pereira, and the President of the Parish Council, Agostinho Gomes.
