Yesterday, Sunday 21 December, Ribeirão inaugurated a new sculpture that now embellishes the Santana – Ferreiros Roundabout and which, in addition to enhancing the public space and one of the gateways to the municipality of Famalicão, also reinforces the identity and pride of the Ribeirão community.
Designed by Ribeirão architect João Sá, executed by the company Prisma Dinâmico and landscaped by architect Ana Estefânia, from the Municipality of Famalicão, the renovated roundabout now displays a sculpture created by Alexandre Sá and João Sá, artisans from Esposende. The work features two unfinished human faces which, far from seeking formal perfection, symbolise a community in constant construction. According to the authors, the piece reflects the ‘constructive dissatisfaction’ and dynamism of a town that refuses to remain stagnant.
At the inauguration ceremony, the Mayor of Famalicão, Mário Passos, accompanied by the President of the Parish Council, Leonel Rocha, and the Councillor for the Parishes, Augusto Lima, emphasised the importance of the intervention for the enhancement of public space and local identity. "This work represents much more than urban regeneration. It is a symbol of the ambition, dynamism and resilience of the Ribeirão community, which looks to the future without forgetting its roots,‘ said the mayor, adding that, through this sculpture, we also convey the message ’that a community is always under construction and that the development of a territory is a continuous process."
The mayor also highlighted the involvement of authors and professionals linked to the region, considering that the project ‘reinforces the connection between architecture, art and territory, placing people at the centre of development.’
