City Hall of Vila Nova de Famalicão wants to promote the separation and deposition of used cooking oil in recycling bins and, for that, launched an awareness campaign under the slogan "there are no mixtures here".
The campaign will be developed in several platforms of the municipality, in the local and regional media and in outdoors spaces in Famalicão.
The Famalicão local authority is currently concluding the process of placing 60 cooking oil bins throughout the county, after having implemented a selective collection system of domestic oils in partnership with EGI - Waste Management.
The implementation of this system will allow all collected cooking oils to be recycled respecting the applicable environmental legislation and transformed into new products.
It should be noted that the cooking oil bins are exclusively for depositing used cooking oil, with motor oil deposits, direct pouring or cooking oil used in glass containers being forbidden. Household users should deposit used cooking oil (after cooling) in a plastic bottle or jug. When the container is full and tightly closed, they should deposit it at the nearest oil recycling bin.
By ensuring the proper disposal of used cooking oil, the people of Famalicão will be contributing to reduce the pollution load in WWTP's and the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and allow the recovery of this resource, particularly for the production of new products such as biodiesel, soap, candles, among other applications.
