On the weekend of 19 and 20 of July, Praça - Mercado de Famalicão will host the Arrebita street food festival, bringing 30 chefs from all over the country to the city to present dishes ranging from traditional cuisine to creative cuisine, sustainability, the rescue of forgotten recipes, the enhancement of ingredients and dishes full of identity.
The initiative is part of the ‘Há Verão na Praça’ (Summer in the Square) entertainment programme, which promotes various activities in the Municipal Market until the end of September.
Tuna ceviche and Portuguese-style pikeperch with Alcobaça apples and fried Camarinha, grilled pastured lamb durum, Alentejo floor, watercress and homemade pickles, Bola de Berlim with sausage... and prawn filling are just some of the examples of what will be served over the course of Saturday and Sunday, all at a fair price.
The initiative is promoted by the Municipality of Famalicão in partnership with Amuse Bouche and brings to the city a number of chefs who are recognised by the places where they work, including Renato Cunha, from the Ferrugem restaurant, but also Lídia Brás, Marco Gomes, Arnaldo Azevedo, Julien Montbabut and Vítor Adão, among others.
Arrebita is an idea that seeks to bring chefs from all over the world to all over the world, to give a stage to the territory, to provoke meetings and discussions about products and food, which are then shown to the public, with delicious, provocative dishes that are increasingly linked to the land.
The festival will also involve local producers and will have permanent entertainment throughout the two days, with music, DJs. Admission is free, and the dishes cost €7.50.
"This is what Arrebita was born for: to take chefs out of their comfort zone, to valorise the national gastronomic heritage, and to connect people around a good idea. We've wanted to go to the north for a long time, Famalicão opened its doors to us and we couldn't be happier," emphasises Ana Músico, co-founder of Arrebita Portugal and promoter of the initiative.
The travelling gastronomic festival has already been to several locations, with the aim of promoting and boosting national gastronomy, bringing new Portuguese cuisine from all over the country to the streets, within everyone's reach. It won the Portuguese Academy of Gastronomy's Grand Prize for Gastronomy in 2021 and was the project invited to the World Tourism Organisation as a case study of positive impact in promoting sustainable gastronomic tourism.
