Sharing the stories of the Famalicense community through contemporary dance was the challenge embraced by Intranzyt Cia.®️ which, over the last few months, has developed an unprecedented show inspired by the experiences of around two dozen citizens from the parishes of Pousada de Saramagos, Joane, Mogege and Vermoim.
The show ‘Um Corpo de Hi(es)stórias’ is scheduled to premiere this Saturday, 31 May, at 18h00, at the Narciso Ferreira Theatre, with free admission.
‘The body has stories, people have stories - we started from there,’ emphasises Vasco Macide, from Intranzyt Cia.®️, who is responsible for the artistic direction of this community co-creation project in contemporary dance.
"I asked each participant for a personal, anonymous and unidentified story. We received some very hard life stories (...) that really touched me," says Vasco Macide. ‘The first text I wrote was dramatic, very dark,’ which led him to rethink his approach and look for a ‘tragic-comic’ register, capable of conveying the harshness of the stories in a lighter way and symbolically distanced from their emotional weight.
The specificity of the participants also proved to be a challenge: ‘There were many movements we tried that didn't work (...) others we had to adapt to the mobility and physical functionality of the participants,’ emphasises the choreographer.
One of the main objectives of the project was precisely the inclusion of socially disadvantaged people with disabilities, physical limitations or in a situation of isolation, as well as senior citizens.
‘I like it, it's fun,’ says Olívia Cunha, 65, who lives in Joane, about the rehearsals for ‘Um Corpo de Hi(es)stórias’.
‘We have fun (...) it's an opportunity to get out of the house and try new things,’ she adds. She had never done contemporary dance before, but accepted the challenge with enthusiasm and is willing to continue: ‘If I can continue, yes!’ she exclaims.
It should be noted that ‘Um Corpo de Hi(es)stórias’ is a community project that took place between March and May 2025, with artistic direction by Intranzyt Cia.®️ (Molécula Fértil Associação) and promoted by the Vila Nova de Famalicão Municipality as part of the ‘Há Cultura 2024-2027’ programme, in co-production with the Narciso Ferreira Theatre and in partnership with the Inter-Parish Social Commission of Pousada de Saramagos, Joane, Mogege and Vermoim. It is co-financed by the European Union through the NORTE 2030 Regional Programme.
