Famalicão's Festas Antoninas kick off this Friday, 6 June, for eight days full of tradition, culture and lots of entertainment.
The first day of the festivities will feature the brilliance and colour of the mini marchers who will parade through the streets of the city from 14h30.
The Children's Marches are taking place this year under the theme “Camilo Castelo Branco in Vila Nova de Famalicão”, celebrating the bicentenary of the writer's birth. In total, more than 1,100 children from 18 educational institutions in the municipality are taking part in the parade.
From Avenida 25 de Abril, the parade follows Rua Adriano Pinto Basto, Rua de Santo António, Praça 9 de Abril, Rua Júlio Araújo, returns to Avenida 25 de Abril and ends at Parque 1º de Maio, where the various participating marches are scheduled to perform.
In addition to the support given by the City Council to all the institutions involved, the parade jury will also award prizes for “Best Costume and Bows”, worth 300 euros, and “Best March”, worth 200 euros. The “Grand Winner of the Children's Marches” will be honoured with a prize of 500 euros.
Now, ACB, Colégio Talvalzinho, Mais Plural, Centro Social e Paroquial de Landim, Centro Social Dr. Nuno Simões, Associação de Moradores das Lameiras, Creche e Jardim de Infância D. Elzira Cupertino de Portugal will all take part. Elzira Cupertino de Miranda, Casa do Pessoal do Hospital Distrital de Vila Nova de Famalicão, Centro Social de Calendário, ATA - Associação de Trabalhadores da ACO, Creche e Jardim de Infância Nª Sª da Guia, Centro Social de Educação Sol Nascente, Associação Engenho, Instituto S. José, Infantário Escola Preparatória de Vila Nova de Famalicão, Creche e Jardim de Infância Nª Sª da Lapa, Associação Gerações and Escola Básica de Quintão will participate.
The Antonine Festivities take place from 6 to 13 June in Vila Nova de Famalicão, with a vast cultural and entertainment programme for all ages. Mariza, Slow J and Nuno Ribeiro are three of the names that promise to mark this edition of Antoninas, organised with not only the locals in mind, but also the thousands of visitors who will be passing through Famalicão throughout the week.
