The mayor of Famalicão, Mário Passos, today congratulated the Futebol Clube de Famalicão Futsal team on winning the title of champions of the Second National Division of the sport and consequently going up to the top level of national futsal - the Placard League.
The athletes, coaching staff and directors were received this morning at the Town Hall. ‘It's a source of pride for our city to have another team competing at the top level of a sport, in this case Futsal,’ said the mayor.
‘I congratulate you and thank you for this great achievement, the result of the excellent work done during the season and proof that Famalicão is on the map of national sport,’ he added.
For the president of Futebol Clube de Famalicão, José Pina Ferreira, the main objective was fulfilled. ‘We really wanted to go up to the first futsal division and make history for our club. The whole team is to be congratulated and both the players, coaching staff, managers and fans and Futebol Clube de Famalicão deserve to celebrate this achievement,’ he said.
Rui Marques, from Famalicão and team captain, did not hide the pride he feels at being champions of the club from the city where he was born. ‘I can't stop thanking my team-mates. Together we managed to raise the name of Futebol Clube de Famalicão in this great sport of futsal, which is a source of pride for me as a Famalicense,’ he said, also thanking ’all the fans who supported us throughout the season. This title is theirs too,’ he concluded.
The cup for winning the Second National Division futsal championship is on public display at the Famalicão Town Hall until 13 June.
