More and better housing and more affordable housing is at the root of the various responses that the Vila Nova de Famalicão municipality has in place to combat the housing problems of Famalicenses.
This is the case with the construction of 331 new homes - 210 of which are already underway - representing an investment of 44 million euros, in Gondifelos, Castelões, Delães, Bairro, Carreira, Mogege, Oliveira São Mateus, Oliveira Santa Maria, Bairro and Telhado.
This Monday, 2 June, in Castelões, in one of the multi-family buildings under construction, mayor Mário Passos explained that all these new homes are intended for affordable rent, a new segment of public housing in Famalicão aimed at the municipality's middle class families.
In his presentation to the press, Mário Passos also listed a number of other measures implemented by the municipality to respond to the crisis in the housing sector.
This is the case with the sale of affordable plots aimed at young people who want to build. So far, 20 plots have been identified in Fradelos, Landim, Ribeirão and Castelões. ‘We know how difficult it is for young people to find housing solutions and with this help we're mainly trying to be a facilitator so that they can buy plots and idealise their homes,’ explained the mayor.
The mayor also highlighted the rehabilitation of the municipal housing stock, an investment of 17.4 million euros, which will allow 309 homes to be renovated, and the support given under the Casa Feliz programme.
In the case of the Casa Feliz programme, it should be remembered that the municipality has already supported nearly 400 families, with an investment of 1.7 million euros, to carry out conservation, repair or improvement work on dilapidated homes, as well as to make improvements in terms of energy efficiency and accessibility conditions for people with mobility problems. The income support aspect of Casa Feliz has so far invested 2.7 million euros and reached 2,800 families. ‘Small major interventions that have allowed us to significantly improve the living conditions of Famalicenses’.
"The sum of all these contributions is the answer to the need we diagnosed. Housing is not a privilege, it's a right that we are committed to guaranteeing to the people of Famalicão," he said.
