Mário Passos: ‘Inauguration of the Vila on City Day is full of symbolism’
The inauguration of the Town is scheduled for 10h00 on July 9, the 40th anniversary of Famalicão's elevation to City status.
For the Mayor, Mário Passos, the inauguration of the Village - Student Residence on this day is full of symbolism. "It's a reaffirmation of what we want to be: a city open to knowledge, which grows and welcomes dreams. A city of opportunities for all," he says.
The municipality's first Student Residence will have capacity for 91 residents, spread over 53 rooms of five different types, including single and double rooms and studios and rooms adapted for people with reduced mobility.
Located right in the centre of the city, in Praça D. Maria II, the Vila will serve the four higher education institutions established in the municipality: Cooperativa de Ensino Superior Politécnico e Universitário (CESPU), Instituto Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave (IPCA), Universidade do Minho and Universidade Lusíada.
The infrastructure is the result of the refurbishment and extension of the former municipal environmental services building, in Praça D. Maria II, and involved an investment of around 5 million euros, 3.4 million of which came from the National Plan for Accommodation in Higher Education (PNAES) supported by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), in partnership with the Erasmus+ Education and Training National Agency.
