Vila Nova de Famalicão celebrates its 40th anniversary as a city on July 09 and the date will be marked by various initiatives, including the
1st Festival of Senior Tunas in the municipality, an initiative promoted by the Famalicão Municipality Senior Academies Network project.
The event is scheduled for 11 July at 21h00 in the Town Hall. It will feature the tunas of Tusefa - Tuna Sénior de Famalicão, Novo Rumo - Associação de Professores, Academia Sénior de Delães and Tun'ARRA - Associação de Reformados de Riba de Ave. The Senior Academies of Requião, Pedome, Oliveira Santa Maria and Seide are also performing together, and the tunas of the Senior Academy of the Municipality of Braga, the Senior University of Barcelos and the University of the 3rd Age of Guimarães are also invited.
‘It's important to involve senior citizens in the dynamics of our city,’ says the mayor, Mário Passos. ‘The work they do throughout the year at the Academies is very interesting and it makes perfect sense for the people of Guimarães to have the opportunity to get to know them through initiatives like this,’ concludes the mayor.
City Day is next Wednesday (July 9). First thing in the morning, Sinçães Park will host Sarau/Senior Picnic, an initiative promoted under the ‘More and Better Years’ programme. The 40th City Day will also be marked by the inauguration of the Vila - Student Residence, at 10h00, and the Solemn Session and Award Ceremony, at 18h00, in the Casa das Artes.
