The associations of Lagoa, in Vila Nova de Famalicão, now have a new space in the parish at their disposal, in the old Lamosos school building, on Rua da Escola.
The new space was inaugurated yesterday, 29 June, and is the result of a municipal investment of 30,000 euros in restructuring the building.
‘We're very pleased to have been able to carry out this work,’ says António Gomes, president of the Avidos and Lagoa Parish Council. "Until now, our associations didn't have a dedicated space. Fortunately, it was possible to rehabilitate the old school building and provide them with a space where they can now gather and store their materials," he concluded.
The Associação Desperta e Brinca (Awake and Play Association) and LACS, Associação Cultural S. Salvador da Lagoa (S. Salvador da Lagoa Cultural Association) are already using the new space, and there are also other rooms available for the parish community.
The mayor of Famalicão, Mário Passos, said yesterday that it was ‘important to continue to value the associations in our municipality’. The mayor added that ‘Famalicão has a strong associative movement that deserves to be recognised both for the way it contributes to the growth of the municipality and for the way it helps to maintain and value our traditions and customs’.
Yesterday was also marked by the 5th edition of the Sweet Market and the Sweet of Perdition competition, organised by the Inter-Parish Social Commission of Avidos, Lagoa, Landim and Seide.
