"Mix and Move!" This is the slogan of the European Mobility Week that takes place from 16 to 22 of September, and to which Vila Nova de Famalicão joins with a set of activities promoting soft ways of locomotion for the environment.
With the central theme "Better Connections" and the slogan "Mix and Move", the European Mobility Week in Famalicão is organised by the City Council of Vila Nova de Famalicão, through the department for Mobility and Road Safety, in the renewed central area of the city and other spaces of the municipality, taking place from 17 to 22 September with numerous recreational, educational and sports activities, aimed at the entire population of Famalicão.
The initiative kicks off next Saturday, September 17, with the action "Pelo Chão da Cidade", which covers a set of activities open to the public, ranging from traffic education to dance, and will take place between 10h00 and 18h30, in D. Maria II Square and Rua João de Faria Guimarães.
On Tuesday, September 20, bicycle racks will be placed at the Escola Básica Integrada de Arnoso Santa Maria, where an awareness session on bicycle use and care will also take place.
Those who use the Voltas on September 21 and 22, from 10h00 to 12h00 and from 14h00 to 16h30 will be able to enjoy moments of poetry and the reading of short stories during the journey.
Another highlight will be 22 September, Thursday, the date of the "European Car Free Day". On this day, there are activities open to the public next to the Ribeirão School Centre, which include the School of Road Education, traditional games, artistic ceramics workshop and several sports activities.
It should be noted that every year, from 16 to 22 September, European citizens have the opportunity to celebrate a whole week of activities dedicated to sustainable mobility, with the aim of promoting a wide debate on the need to change attitudes and behaviours regarding mobility, in particular regarding the use of the car. The European Mobility Week initiative was established in 2002, following the success of the European Car Free Day (ECD) in 2000 and 2001, by the Commissioner for the Environment and with the political and financial support of the European Commission (EC).
