This weekend, the educational communities of Arnoso Santa Eulália, Castelões and Mogege celebrated the completion of the renovation work on their school buildings.
The moment of celebration in the three parishes was witnessed by the mayor of Famalicão, Mário Passos, who attended the inauguration of the refurbishment of the EB1 in Castelões and the works carried out at the EB/JI in Mogege on Friday 27 June, and the inauguration of the refurbishment and extension works at the EB in Quintão, in Arnoso Santa Eulália, on Saturday 28 June. Three investments totalling more than 1.3 million euros.
In Arnoso Santa Eulália, Mário Passos was accompanied by the school's students and “new tenants”, who learnt about the building's renovation at the school's closing party. EB de Quintão is today a transformed school, because of the extension of the building, the creation of new areas that have developed in continuity with the pre-existing building, the covered playground, the playground with a playing field, green spaces and a children's playground. As well as classrooms for primary school pupils, the school will also welcome pre-school pupils, who until now had been housed in the premises of a parish association.
‘It was one of the schools that we had identified as needing urgent intervention, because it didn't fulfil the requirements that we have established for the municipality's school park, where it is important to have comfortable conditions so that teachers and students can carry out the teaching-learning process in complete comfort,’ said Mário Passos. The investment totalled 518,000 euros, with the school also being equipped in terms of air conditioning.
The day before, on Friday, the mayor had already inaugurated the refurbishment of the Castelões EB1, where the municipality rehabilitated the existing buildings, the electrical installation system and the ventilation and air conditioning system, in an investment of around 312 thousand euros.
In Mogege, the Municipality of Famalicão also renovated the Primary School and Kindergarten, a project that involved the construction of two new classrooms, one for activities and the other for extending and supporting the Kindergarten, as well as renovating the electrical installation and ventilation and air conditioning system, an investment of almost 480 thousand euros.
In Famalicão, investment in education and the renovation of the municipality's school estate has received a significant slice of the municipal budget. Mário Passos pointed to these schools as an example of "a series of structural interventions that we are promoting to guarantee an increasingly high-quality education in Vila Nova de Famalicão. It's a commitment based on the qualification of our population, because it's the only path to an increasingly empowered territory".
It's worth remembering that the municipality has the requalification and expansion of the Padre Benjamim Salgado Secondary School in Joane underway, as well as other important projects such as the Senador Sousa Fernandes Primary School, the construction of the new Delães Primary School and the new Brufe School Centre.
