The colour of this year's edition of the Magic Firefly, a symbol of solidarity and support for children, young people and adults with intellectual disabilities and/or multi-disabilities, is now known.
ACIP - Ave Cooperativa Intervenção Psicossocial, the organisation responsible for selling the Magic Firefly in Famalicão, was at the Town Hall on Wednesday, May 7, to mark the start of another national campaign, whose motto this year is ‘The light that embraces difference’.
Pink and purple are the colours chosen for the 2025 Magic Lollipop, which will cost 2.50 euros and can be purchased from the ACIP and in various places such as kiosks, schools, Banco Montepio branches, CTT shops and Pingo Doce shops across the country.
The proceeds go to social solidarity cooperatives (CERCI) and other organisations across the country that provide support services to thousands of children, young people and adults with special needs.
Mário Passos, mayor of Famalicão, emphasises the importance of all those who dedicate themselves to this cause. ‘Thank you to everyone who contributes and allows us to keep this mission alive, which is so important for building a more inclusive and supportive society,’ he said.
Until June 1, hundreds of professionals and volunteers from the north to the south of the country will be taking part in activities to raise awareness and appeal for solidarity with the cause of inclusion.
It's worth remembering that the Magic Firefly Campaign was created in 1987 in conjunction with FENACERCI - the National Federation of Social Solidarity Co-operatives, making it one of the oldest and most reputable solidarity initiatives in Portugal.
