Starting this Monday, 9 March, almost two hundred traditional shops in Vila Nova de Famalicão will be accessible online through the
‘Village Trade’ marketplace.
At https://comerciodavila.pt/, visitors can learn about and find Famalicão's commerce, a directory of sales or displays of products and services from 171 traditional shops and services in the geographical area of Famalicão's Digital Commercial District, covering 20 streets in the urban centre of Famalicão.
The ‘Village Trade’ marketplace is one of the main actions in the implementation of the Famalicão Digital Commercial District, a project promoted by ACIF - Famalicão Commercial and Industrial Association and the Municipality, which is based on a strategy of digitising businesses to strengthen the competitiveness of traditional commerce, with a direct impact on the modernisation of commercial activity, ensuring traders a new channel for selling and promoting their products and services.
By investing in technology and digitalisation, local businesses are boosting their visibility, expanding sales opportunities, reaching new audiences and improving the customer experience.
‘Local commerce continues to be a central element of urban identity, preserving the values of proximity, tradition and personalised service that bring the city to life, but it is essential that it adapts to the present day,’ explains Hélder Costa, president of ACIF, who believes that ‘digitalisation does not replace traditional commerce, but strengthens it, and that is the relevant point of this process.’
The “Village Trade” marketplace is adapted to any device, is intuitive, accessible and easy to use. It also integrates a centralised Delivery Logistics System that allows consumers to make purchases quickly, track orders and tailor deliveries to their personal rhythms, reinforcing the idea that shopping at local businesses has never been so simple and convenient.
In addition to modernising and digitising traditional commerce, the project aims to promote public spaces, making them more attractive with creative, fun initiatives that promote good consumer experiences, focusing on people and supporting merchants.
‘We have been consulting with merchants, and the actions we are promoting within the scope of this project are aimed at enhancing the urban space to also make traditional commerce more attractive,’ emphasises Mayor Mário Passos.
The management of the Marketplace, which brings together the various shops, the logistics delivery system and the promotion of training and education plans in the digital area, are actions within the scope of ACIF's management. The Municipality is responsible for strengthening the Wi-Fi network within the perimeter of the Digital Commercial District, creating infrastructure and multimedia entertainment, and installing sensors in car parks and signage, which are also underway.
