Vila Nova de Famalicão Municipal Council continues to support the municipality’s private social welfare organisations (IPSS) in carrying out the projects they are currently undertaking, which will enable them to enhance the services they provide to the community on a daily basis.
This Thursday, 12 March, at another Council meeting, the executive led by Mário Passos approved the allocation of a new tranche of funding for five Famalicão-based IPSS, amounting to 230,000 euros.
The funds are earmarked for the completion of construction, refurbishment and extension works at the facilities of the S. Pedro de Bairro Social and Cultural Centre, the Joane and Landim Parish Social Centre, SOCIALELOOS – Fradelos Social Association, and ACIP – Ave Cooperative for Psychosocial Intervention CRL.
“The social services provided by these private social welfare institutions on the ground are essential for strengthening the support network for families in Famalicão,” emphasised Mário Passos, the mayor. “This investment will enable the institutions to complete their building works and modernise their facilities, thereby increasing their capacity to respond to the needs of early childhood, support for the elderly, and all citizens requiring special care,” concluded the mayor.
It should be noted that this is not the first time the local council has approved this type of funding. Since 2024, the council has already allocated €2 million to support private social welfare institutions (IPSS) in carrying out a series of infrastructure projects that will enable them to face future challenges with hope and confidence and enhance their social provision, with the creation of 800 new places.
