Residents of Famalicão snapped up all 3,000 trees and shrubs – including forest, fruit and aromatic species – during the tree adoption campaign held this Sunday, 22 March, between 9h00 am and 12h00 pm at the Municipal Market Square.
The initiative, organised by Famalicão Council, confirmed the community is growing involvement in the council’s environmental initiatives. Each participant was able to adopt up to three trees or shrubs, contributing to the expansion of green spaces and the promotion of more sustainable practices.
“The community’s involvement demonstrates that Famalicão is genuinely committed to creating a more sustainable, eco-friendly area that is prepared for the challenges of the future,” said Mário Passos, Mayor of Famalicão, who attended the event accompanied by the Councillor for Green Spaces and Forestry, Vânia Marçal.
It should be noted that the initiative forms part of the municipal strategy to promote biodiversity, strengthen climate resilience and encourage sustainable lifestyles, as well as the municipal project “100,000 trees by 2030”.
