The City Hall of Vila Nova de Famalicão will draw up a municipal inventory of the trees, with a list and plan of the trees classified as of public and municipal interest existing in the territory. The measure is one of the guidelines set out in the draft Municipal Regulation on the Management of Trees, approved this Thursday in the meeting of the executive of Vila Nova de Famalicão.
The document, which defines the municipal strategy for urban trees, intends to create an action framework that promotes and systematizes the municipality's interventions in the planning, implementation, management, maintenance and classification of the municipality's tree heritage, typify the most frequent infractions, regulate administrative offences and set the respective fines.
The diploma applies to all public green spaces in the county, namely, parks, gardens, squares and public parks, streets, alleys, cemeteries, among others.
The regulation proposal is now for public consultation, for a period of 30 days after publication in the Electronic Official Gazette. The regulation will be available for consultation on the municipality's website.
The town's Environment councillor, Hélder Pereira, said today that the regulation should come into force by August and pointed out that urban trees are an inseparable part of the quality of urban life, with positive impacts on improving air quality, promoting biodiversity and enhancing heritage and landscapes.
