Famalicão and Givors, in France, have renewed the cooperation relationship that has existed since 1992. The signing of the Agreement Renewing the Letter of Friendship between the two municipalities took place last Saturday, 17 September, in the French city.
This renewal agreement happens precisely in the year that marks the 30th anniversary of the twinning relationship between the Vila Nova de Famalicão and Givors municipalities.
The town councillor for International Relations, Augusto Lima, representing the municipal executive, and the Mayor of Givors, Mohamed Boudjellaba, who reaffirmed this cross-border friendly relationship, attended the official ceremony.
It should be noted that this twinning agreement has been materialized throughout the last decades, by means of several activities implemented in the cooperation framework between the two cities.
The signing of this agreement is associated to the commemoration of the European Heritage Days, which took place on 17 and 18 September in France, where the inauguration of the exhibition of the project TEAR - Artistic Territories, developed by A Casa ao Lado, in partnership with several entities, including the City Council of Vila Nova de Famalicão and the UNESCO National Commission, was also inserted. The exhibition is on show in the Saint Nicolas Church, in Givors, for a period of one month.
The installation of this exhibition in the French city, which involves pieces created with students from the Camilo Castelo Branco, Ribeirão, D. Sancho I, Pedome and Gondifelos school groups, represents the interconnection between the school community, art and the textile industry of Famalicão, in a gesture that takes our industrial heritage beyond borders, cementing Famalicão's brand as the Textile City of Portugal.
