Vila Nova de Famalicão reaffirmed its status as a cultural and literary landmark with the opening of the travelling exhibition ‘
Livro Aberto – Camillo: Rotas do Escritor’ (Open Book – Camillo: The Writer's Routes) at Rossio Station and the municipality's prominent presence at the Lisbon Travel Market (BTL) at the Lisbon International Fair.
As part of the celebrations of the bicentenary of the birth of Camilo Castelo Branco, the exhibition, installed in the lobby on the 2nd floor of Rossio Station and open until 8 March, is a privileged showcase for the “ Camillo: The Writer's Routes” project, promoted by the Municipality of Famalicão. Located in one of the capital's most emblematic railway stations, the exhibition brings thousands of national and foreign visitors closer to Camilo's legacy and the territory that gave him his literary life.
The Municipal Councillor attended the opening ceremony for Tourism, Augusto Lima, Prof. Dr. Miguel Cruz, President of Infrastructures of Portugal, Dr. Paulo Sérgio Rodrigues, Prof. Dr. Pedro Matias, representing Tourism of Portugal, and Dr. Isabel Vasconcelos, from Casa de Pindela, reinforcing the institutional and strategic dimension of the initiative.
The exhibition invites the public to explore the places, landscapes and contexts that marked Camilo's life and work, promoting an immersive experience that combines literature, heritage, history and identity. More than a cultural evocation, it is a tool for promoting the region, positioning Famalicão as a structured literary tourism destination, integrated into a network for promoting heritage and culture.
Famalicão in the largest showcase for national tourism
At the same time, Vila Nova de Famalicão was present at the Lisbon Tourism Fair, the largest national event in the sector, reinforcing the projection of the ‘Camillo - Rotas do Escritor’ project among tour operators, investors, institutional partners and the public.
At BTL, the municipality presented an integrated offer that combines culture, heritage, literary tourism and food and wine, highlighting the authenticity of the territory and its ability to generate unique experiences. The presence at the fair was a strategic step in consolidating Famalicão as a competitive destination on the national and international tourism scene.
The ‘Camillo - The Writer's Routes’ project is co-financed by the European Union through the Northern Regional Programme 2030, reflecting a structured commitment to the enhancement of cultural heritage as a driver of economic, tourist and identity development.
With the exhibition in the heart of Lisbon and active participation in BTL, Famalicão reinforces its status as the Camilian capital and a territory where literature is transformed into experience, knowledge and opportunity for the future.
