The Camillo House-Museum in Vila Nova de Famalicão will celebrate, on 15 October, 100 years of its opening to the public, and the date has been chosen to make official the house of Seide São Miguel as the headquarters of the tourist-cultural project "Camillo - Rotas do Escritor", which aims to materialise and enhance a literary route around Camillian living, literary and architectural heritage.
The inauguration of the headquarters of the Camillian route in the Casa-Museu gallery is one of the high points of the sixth edition of the Camillian Encounters, which will take place on 14 and 15 October, in São Miguel de Seide.
It is worth remembering that, besides the City Hall of Famalicão, this project to enhance the heritage of Camilo Castelo Branco also counts on the involvement of other institutions and cities in the north of the country with a strong historical connection to the novelist, such as Braga, Porto and Ribeira de Pena.
Meanwhile, the 6th edition of the Camillian Encounters starts on Friday 14th, with the realization of a Camillian itinerary to the historical centre of Braga, during which biographic episodes of the novelist and places or buildings frequented by Camilo that served as scenery for his fictional productions will be evoked. The departure from Seide is scheduled for 14h00, near Casa de Camilo. In the evening, at 21h30, GRUTACA will present "Entre a flauta e a viola", a comic play by Camilo Castelo Branco, in the auditorium of the Centro de Estudos.
The works of the second day of the Camillian Encounters will start at 9h30, with the intervention of the Mayor of the Municipality, Mário Passos, and the director of Casa de Camilo, José Manuel de Oliveira.
The inaugural conference will be moderated by Professor João Paulo Braga, from the Catholic University of Braga, and will include the intervention of Eunice Maria Ribeiro, from the University of Minho, who will address the theme "Camillian Portraits: approaches and enigmas".
At 10h30, the inauguration of the exhibition "A tebaida do Mestre de Seide - 100 years of memories of a house-museum" will follow. A documentary, bibliographical and iconographic exhibition of the most important facts related with the pulse of Camilo's House-Museum from 15 October 1922 to the present day.
Starting at 11h00, there will be presentations by Serafina Martins, from the Faculty of Letters of Lisbon, on the theme "Return to Fanny Owen, return to Romanticism"; Luciana Namorato, from Indiana University Bloomington, who will address the theme "Between revolutions, invasions and passions: the role of history in Camilo Castelo Branco's current affairs novels" and Stefanie Gil Franco, from the New University of Lisbon, with "Camilo and Jorge, the mad son, in medical literature".
This will be followed by a lunch with a Camillian menu, at 13h00, and the closing conference, at 14h30, with the presentation of Maria de Fátima Marinho, from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto, on the theme "Camilo Castelo Branco: from the controversial figure to the controversial figures" and the presentation of the book "Camilo Castelo Branco and the attraction of abysses".
