Vila Nova de Famalicão is the host municipality for the XXV Sports Awards Gala "O Minhoto", in a decision agreed in a recent meeting held between the Municipality and the event organiser, Associação A Nossa Terra. The ceremony will take place on the 28th of November, in Casa das Artes.
"Sport has an important role in the life of famalicenses, we are a sporting municipality!" says Mário Passos, who sees with good eyes the realization of the gala in famalicense territory. "It is a great honour to host this initiative", highlights the mayor.
The "O Minhoto" Sports Trophies Gala aims to publicly recognize and reward the merit of athletes, clubs, sports managers, coaches and referees who stood out in the practice of their sports in the Minho region.
Around half a thousand guests from the region and the country are expected to attend the event, where around thirty trophies will be awarded in the different areas eligible for prizes, among which are the Jury Grand Prize, the Revelation, the Consecration and the awards for the different disciplines.
Having as one of the identifying characteristics of the event, the rotation of municipalities in hosting the Gala, it is natural that the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão hosts the XXV edition of the Gala, having already taken place in the municipalities of Braga, Viana do Castelo, Esposende, Vila Nova de Cerveira, Monção, Barcelos, Vila Verde, Caminha, Arcos de Valdevez, Fafe, Ponte da Barca, Cabeceiras de Basto, Paredes de Coura, Ponte de Lima, Valença, Amares, Vieira do Minho, Guimarães, Melgaço and Celorico de Basto.
The jury of this initiative is responsible, through voting in three distinct phases, for the nominations and choice of award winners, after having approved the regulations by which this event is governed. It comprises more than one hundred members, including sports journalists (press, radio, television and digital, covering different municipalities of the Minho region and nationwide) and entities linked to sports (federations, club associations and school sports).
It is worth remembering that this project, due to its value and merit, has over the years gained the collaboration of several bodies and entities, including the Ministry of Education, the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth, the Portuguese Olympic Committee, the Sports Confederation of Portugal, the Portuguese Federation of Sports for People with Disabilities, the Tourism of Porto and North of Portugal (Regional Authority), the 24 municipalities in the region, several Club Associations and Federations.
