The Mayor of Famalicão, Mário Passos, participated last Thursday, 19 February, in the General Assembly of Atlantic Axis, held at the City Council of A Coruña, which brought together the 41 entities that make up the organisation. Access to housing, migration flows and the fight against poverty and social exclusion were the main topics of discussion, areas that are consolidating as central themes for the organisation and shaping its work agenda for 2026.
These challenges structure the programme of activities for 2026, approved during the meeting, and aimed at strengthening social and territorial cohesion. The programme is organised around three main axes: urban sustainability, economic development and social development, with special attention to the integration of the migrant population, social cohesion and the guarantee of decent housing conditions.
Among the priorities are the updating of the Urban Agenda, the monitoring of the Infrastructure Map and sustainable urban planning, as key instruments for reducing inequalities and preventing poverty in the municipalities of the Atlantic Axis.
The General Assembly also ratified the budget for 2026, which amounts to approximately €5.5 million, as well as the accounts and management report for the previous financial year. The approved programme includes cultural, educational and sporting activities, together with social innovation and polycentric and authorial tourism initiatives.
At the international level, the cooperation strategy was reinforced, consolidating relations with cities in Latin America, Cape Verde, Mexico, Cuba and Argentina, and strengthening ties with AECID and the Camões Institute.
