The work to reinforce public lighting in the streets of Vila Nova de Famalicão city centre has been completed and fully operational since Monday May 19th.
The intervention, which involved replacing the existing lighting with LED technology, installing new points and upgrading the existing luminaires, focused on Rua Daniel dos Santos, Rua de Santo António, Praça 9 de Abril, Rua Direita and Praça Manuel Sottomaior.
‘As well as improving street lighting, this intervention also makes it safer for those who travel around here,’ said Mayor Mário Passos, who toured the streets on Monday night.
In addition to the work on the luminaires, an intelligent equipment management system has also been installed that allows the lighting and its power to be managed point-to-point, which also generates energy savings.
The reinforcement of public lighting has, moreover, been an issue raised by traders in Famalicão's urban centre in the meetings that the mayor has promoted as part of the ‘Trade Tour’.
‘In this trade tour that we've been doing around the city and from the contact we've had, there are suggestions that have been made to us that are pertinent. This lighting issue is a good example of the result of these conversations we're having with people,’ adds mayor Mário Passos.
The municipal investment in this intervention was more than 61,000 euros.
