From June 30 to July 3, the centre of Vila Nova de Famalicão will step back in time for an open-air class given by CIOR - Vila Nova de Famalicão Teaching Cooperative about medieval times and the Viking presence in the Iberian Peninsula. As usual, thousands of people are expected in Famalicão that weekend to interact with the most representative characters of medieval times and with the culture of that time.
The Medieval Viking Fair is an opportunity for everyone to have a party, but also to share diverse knowledge, in a familiar, cosy and fun environment. This event justifies the support of the City Council as it fulfils the premise of territorial affirmation and cultural and touristic projection of the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão, through projects, initiatives and events with added value and differentiation from the regional and national offer, investing in a unique Viking brand/theme.
One thousand years ago, the territory that is now Vila Nova de Famalicão was already strategic in the context of the entire region and not even the Normans (Vikings) stopped passing through here and leaving their marks.
Demonstrations of birds of prey, blood legacies, Iberian dances, acts of faith, fire shows, Viking parade, acrobatics, duels, weddings and many other moments fill the four days of the event in a dynamic and permanent way, inviting visitors to various trips to the space. There will be no lack of reasons, as these dynamics are joined by the market, gastronomy and medieval games, providing visitors with the possibility of a truly immersive visit in the medieval environment.
