On May 6, Ymotion - Famalicão Young Film Festival will kick off another open call. The 9th edition of the festival will be presented at Bernardino Machado Museum, at 6.15 p.m., and it also marks the beginning of the registration period for short films in the festival competition, which runs until 13 October.
On May 6, there will be the inauguration of the exhibition 'Cartazes do Cinema Português', developed by Design students from the Escola Superior de Media Artes e Design (Instituto Politécnico do Porto), at 5.30 p.m.; followed by the presentation of the jury and the general guidelines of the 9th edition of the festival, at 6.15 p.m., in the same space; and, right after, at 6.30 p.m., there will be a debate around the theme 'The future is the present of cinema', involving the panel of judges of the competition, moderated by Rui Pedro Tendinha, Ymotion's commissioner.
The day ends at the Classe Bar with the screening of short films, curated by university professor Maria João Cortesão, in the space's garden, at 10 p.m., followed by the After Party, with entry subject to the space's conditions.
It is worth mentioning that, from May 6 to 12, the Cycle of Formation will take place in the Camillian Studies Centre and in famalicenses schools, with sessions on themes such as: animation cinema, documentary cinema, screenplay, acting for cinema and film directing, a usual dynamic of the festival.
It is recalled that Ymotion is a festival organised by Vila Nova de Famalicão City Council since 2015, which has established itself on the circuit of film shows and festivals in the country, serving as a lever for the work of young filmmakers aged 12 to 35, and consolidating Famalicão as the 'Young Cinema Capital of Portugal'.
In the 2022 edition, '2020: Odyssey on the 3rd Left' (2021), a short film directed by Ricardo Leite, was the big winner of the Joaquim de Almeida Grand Prize. Parallel to the short film competition, Ymotion develops, throughout the year, formative and educational activities, mainly directed to multimedia and cinema students.
