In 2023, the City Council of Vila Nova de Famalicão will triple the offer of public transport in the municipality, which will have more routes and more timetables, including at weekends.
The service adjudication to Transdev was approved this Thursday, November 24th, by the municipal executive and implies a financial effort of more than 5 million euros.
The new service, which will start operating from 1 January 2023, includes a total of 50 transport lines, 18 of which are new and 23 of which have weekend service, with three circulations in each direction on Saturdays and one circulation in each direction on Sundays.
The road transport network in Famalicão will thus increase from 734 thousand kilometres to more than 2.1 million annual kilometres travelled. It is also important to mention that there will be no fare changes in the services that are the municipality's responsibility.
On a morning marked by the approval of the budget for next year, the Mayor, Mário Passos, pointed out the public road transport and the financial effort associated with this item as
"a good example of the concern that this executive has to improve the quality of life of the famalicenses and meet their needs".
It should be remembered that the service awarded today has a transitory nature until the start of the MobiAve project, where Famalicão foresees investing 54 million Euros to guarantee an efficient public service of passenger road transport in the municipality, through a new inter-municipal network designed between the municipalities of Vila Nova de Famalicão, Trofa and Santo Tirso.
The routes and timetables of the routes to be operated by Transdev in the municipality next year will be available for consultation on the Vila Nova de Famalicão municipality portal
