Operetta de manners in 3 acts, finished in July 1880 and staged the following October in Rio de Janeiro. It is set against the backdrop of rural life on the farms on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro in the late 19th century. The plot centres on the love affairs of the couples Leonor and Frederico, respectively protégé of the Lieutenant-Colonel and his son, and between Francelina and Doctor Pinheiro, she a resident of the court, he a magistrate in the village nearest the farm. In the middle of the plot, a whole set of characters that give the true local colour and the typical picturesque of the social and political intrigues of the small towns of the then coffee-growing area.
