At the end of the 16th century, when Christianity from the West was outlawed in Japan, Lady Ogin falls in love with the samurai Ukon Takayama, who is a devout Christian. The warrior refuses her advances, preferring to devote himself to his faith, and Ogin ends up marrying a man she doesn't love. But a few years later, Ukon returns and confesses his love for her. Ogin, who is the daughter of the famous tea master Rikyû, wants to regain her freedom, but the wily Hideyoshi, who rules the country, has started anti-Christian persecutions. Madam Ogin, the last film directed by Kinuyo Tanaka, closes this full-length film dedicated to the filmmaker.
