Theatre and environmental education come together at the 4th Eco-Schools Meeting

03-03-2026
The 4th Municipal Eco-Schools Meeting will feature the premiere of the play My Grandmother's Tree, reinforcing Vila Nova de Famalicão's commitment to environmental education and awareness.

The show, created for the municipality's school community, will take place from 9 to 13 March at the Narciso Ferreira Theatre in Riba de Ave, with sessions scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The play aims to stimulate critical thinking, reflection and a sense of environmental responsibility among students and takes a multidisciplinary approach, combining puppets, masks and circus arts.

The narrative takes place in the shade of a tree and follows the story of a child who learns to value nature through the teachings of his grandmother, reinforcing the idea that environmental preservation depends on collective and individual action.

A single class will represent each educational establishment, with 1,650 participants expected.

It should be noted that Vila Nova de Famalicão is the municipality with the most Eco-Schools in the country, with 80 award-winning educational institutions that, throughout the school year, work in areas such as Waste, Water, Energy, Biodiversity, Agriculture and Outdoor Spaces, Forestry and Climate Change, consolidating an awareness-raising programme that aims to educate citizens to be more conscious, participatory and committed to sustainability.
