On the island of Tahiti in French Polynesia, the High Commissioner of the Republic and French government official De Roller is a calculating man of manners. At official events, as well as in the underworld establishments, he constantly takes the position of the local population, from which anger can emerge at any moment. At the same time, a persistent rumour arises: the ghostly sighting of a submarine announcing the resumption of French nuclear tests. "Pacifiction" was chosen as film of the year for the Cahiers du Cinéma, received the Louis Deluc prize, awarded by twenty critics and personalities, headed by the former president of the Cannes Festival, Gilles Jacob.
