The Orquestra Barroca D'Aquém Mar presents a sound journey between 2023 and 1773, the year in which the municipality of Lagoa in the Algarve was founded. The programme begins with "Pássaros de Lagoa", a commission from the composer Teresa Gentil (1987), exploring the musicality of the birdsong that inhabits the lands of Lagoa in the Algarve, and ends with the duet from the end of the second act of "L'Eumène", by João de Sousa Carvalho (1745 - 1799), which was premiered precisely 250 years ago. The programme also includes G. F. Haendel's (1685-1759) emblematic orchestral suite "The Water Music", originally written to be performed over the River Thames in England. The project has artistic direction by harpsichordist Elsa Mathei and musical direction by Pedro Castro.
