Municipality of Famalicão promotes Reading Week

05-03-2026
Reading Week is back in Vila Nova de Famalicão, between 9 and 14 March, with a series of activities that seek to involve the whole community in books and reading and promote reading habits among the public.

The initiative is part of a national event promoted by the National Reading Plan, which challenges schools, libraries and local institutions to develop activities that celebrate reading as a space for pleasure, imagination, knowledge and encounter.

The opening of Reading Week in Famalicão is scheduled for 9 March at 3 pm at Camilo Castelo Branco Secondary School, with the presence of writer Afonso Reis Cabral.

Throughout the week, activities are planned in various venues across the municipality, from schools and reading centres to companies, radio stations and digital platforms.

The programme includes creative workshops, storytelling hours, read-aloud sessions, sessions shared between different generations and initiatives dedicated to poetry, with a highlight being the tribute to the poet Vasco de Carvalho, scheduled for 10 March at 2.30 pm at the Camilo Castelo Branco Municipal Library.

One of the proposals also includes the Exchange for Exchange initiative, from 10 to 12 March, which encourages the circulation of books in companies, inviting participants to leave one book and take another, in a gesture of sharing among employees.

On the 12th, at 10 a.m., there will also be a ‘Famalicão a LER’ event, inviting the entire community to take a break from their routines for a few moments to devote time to reading.

It should be noted that the Reading Week programme is organised by the Municipality of Famalicão through the Famalicão Libraries Working Group.
