Mário Passos signs Brussels Declaration

The Mayor of Vila Nova de Famalicão, Mário Passos, signed the "Brussels Declaration of European Mayors", which calls for an ambitious European urban policy for the 2024-2029 term.

The document, which was also signed by several networks of European cities, presents the main political challenges facing European cities, including the need to promote the right to affordable, quality and sustainable housing, to promote inclusion and combat social and gender inequalities, to combat climate change and restore biodiversity and to develop safe, inclusive and sustainable mobility.

The declaration, presented last January as part of the Belgian presidency of the European Union, also makes several recommendations to the European institutions, including the need for greater involvement of local governments in the decision-making process, better integration of urban issues at European level and more favourable European regulations and funding.
