The play explores the identity of the ‘I’ as a constant flow, where refusing, accepting and adapting become inevitable actions in the face of a relentless stream of change. Inspired by Murakami's question in ‘The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle’ (‘What is the side of you that is hidden from your own eyes?’), the play reflects on movement in the perpetual search for the Self. Five bodies, five singularities, traverse the play in a collective creation. The languages of dance, masks and puppets intertwine, promoting a confrontation between literary, physical and object matter. This intertwining allows for multiple paths of expression and interpretation.
The labyrinthine and multifaceted being constitutes the central axis of the work. Guided by physical sensation, the performers explore different states of being, immersing themselves in the universe of Murakami's novel. The work is constructed as a territory of experimentation, where the ‘I’ finds its expression in the continuous dialogue between transformation and permanence.
