Ariel, the youngest and most defiant of King Triton's daughters, yearns to learn more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls in love with Prince Eric. As mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel makes a deal with the sea witch, Ursula, and exchanges her beautiful voice for human legs, which gives her the chance to experience life on land, but ultimately endangers her life and her father's crown.
