Molière, the stage name of Jean-Baptiste Poquelin (1622-1673), a French playwright, actor and director, is considered the main renovator of national comedy and, for Voltaire, "the painter of France" par excellence. In the house of Orgon, Tartuffe is king and master. The "cleric" has achieved the comfortable - and very advantageous - position of spiritual guide to the souls of Orgon and his mother, Mrs Pernelle, who are always haunted by the temptation of sin. Tartuffe's devotion, however, is not sincere: it is merely an expedient to satisfy his pretensions to power, wealth and voluptuousness. When Marianne/Marianiana, Orgon's daughter, is promised to him in marriage, the need to unmask the impostor arises... In the Portuguese language, the term tartuffe, as in other languages, has come to be interpreted as hypocritical or false religious person, also giving rise to a series of derivatives such as tartufice, or even the verb tartuficar - meaning to deceive, to ensnare with acts of tartufice. A work with former ACE Famalicão students, emerging actors.
