Mário Lima was born in Viana do Castelo in 1950. He spent his childhood in a village by the river Minho and started his secondary education in Valença, finishing it in Lisbon at the Colégio Militar. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering in Coimbra and, already at the University of Minho, completed his PhD in England in an interface with textile technology. He is a retired professor in the field of mechanical design.
What about painting? After retiring, he joined a painting class at the Senior University of Barcelos, where he learnt some drawing and painting techniques with teacher Flávia Costa and later with painter António Cunha. Painting thus became a hobby or perhaps more than that, a passion.
