This recital spans three distinct musical universes. Schubert's monumental Sonata in B flat major, the composer's last work for piano, combines lyricism, introspection and grandeur. This is followed by Brahms' final opus, Four Pieces for Piano, in which the intimacy of the Intermezzi contrasts with the energy of the Rhapsody. In the second part, Debussy presents a mosaic of atmospheres and pianistic colours, from impressionistic delicacy to the brilliant virtuosity of L'isle joyeuse.

Born in Portugal and currently residing in Porto, Luís Magalhães' career as a pianist reflects the cosmopolitanism typical of successful musicians of the 21st century. He has performed extensively in Europe, with recent performances in Germany, Austria, Portugal, Switzerland, among others. Outside Europe, he has taken to the stage in Brazil, South Africa, China, Japan, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and, on several occasions, in the United States.
He is also very active as a studio musician, having collaborated with notable artists such as Frank Stadler (violin), Daniel Rowland (violin), Madeline Adkins (violin), Priya Mitchell (violin), Gareth Lubbe (viola), Julian Arp (cello), Peter Martens (cello) and James Austin Smith (oboe). The recording with Martens, which includes L. v. Beethoven's complete cello sonatas, was honoured with the prestigious South African Music Award (SAMA) in 2011, while the violin recordings received enthusiastic reviews in The Strad magazine. Between 2000 and 2021, he was a member of the TwoPianists Piano Duo and released four critically acclaimed CDs.
He obtained his PhD from the University of Cape Town in 2011 and was an Associate Professor at Stellenbosch University between 2005 and 2024.
