This project was born from a challenge launched by AVA Musical Editions to Sara Braga Simões and Helena Marinho: to present in concert a series of works by Portuguese composers that had never been available in print, and that AVA Editions, with the support of the Direção-Geral das Artes, has recently published. Among these were several works whose composers, including recent creators, for professional or personal reasons, or even by creative option, did not use or do not use digital means of musical registration, writing their scores by hand. This fact means that an important part of the Portuguese vocal repertoire of the 20th century, and even of the 21st century, is only available in manuscript format, or not even in print, which significantly reduces its dissemination and even its performance opportunities.
Thus, this concert presents, in a commented format, representative works from the Portuguese chamber vocal repertoire from the 20th and 21st centuries, most of them recently published, revealing a wide range of styles and themes in Portuguese creation for voice and piano duo.
